JEREMY SIMS MASTERCLASS

Sydney Acting Studio welcomes renowned actor and director Jeremy Sims to the Studio for a Masterclass.

In 2006, Jeremy produced and directed Last Train to Freo. The film received 3 AFI Award nominations, including Best Actor. In 2010 his second feature, the WW1 epic Beneath Hill 60 was nominated for 12 AFI Awards, 5 IF Awards and 8 FCCA Awards, including Best Director and Best Film across all three awards.

2014's Last Cab to Darwin, which he co-wrote, was a financial and critical hit. It received 13 AACTA (AFI) award nominations, with Michael Caton winning Best Actor. Jeremy's last film Rams, starring Sam Neil, Michael Caton, and Miranda Richardson, was released in 2020 and has since become a worldwide hit.

Sydney Acting Studio is excited to welcome Jess Arthur to the studio for a Theatre Technique Masterclass.

DAVID NEWMAN MASTERCLASS - Mcsweeney newman CASTING

David has worked in various aspects of the industry for over 30 years now, the last 22 years in casting, including 7 years working with Christine King Casting. Having started his casting career with hundreds of commercial projects he then progressed to work on some of the biggest and successful feature film & long-form drama projects to shoot in Australia. In 2010, Dave joined forces with Tom McSweeney to form McSweeney Newman Casting.

Recent projects include NAUTILUS (due out in late 2023), THE BLUE (due out 2023),DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD, LOVE & MONSTERS, BLACKLIGHT (staring Liam Neeson),other credits include THE FAMILY LAW, THE END, ROCK ISLAND MYSTERIES, THE BUREAU OF MAGICAL THINGS, MAKO MERMAIDS, RED DOG and EAST WEST 101. He spent 15 months as the Australian Casting Associate on ‘THE PACIFIC' (Stephen Spielberg, Tom Hanks, HBO), conducting well over 3000 auditions on this project alone – Dave calls The Pacific his ‘degree in casting’.  Dave was honoured to represent his peers as the President of the Casting Guild of Australia 2020- 2022.

NATALIE WALL MASTERCLASS - BArrETT CASTING

Natalie has been a part of Barrett Casting for the past twelve years working on a wide range of film and television projects, including Oscar winning features, US studio productions, international co-productions, acclaimed Australian films and limited series television.

Recent work as Casting Director includes Goran Stolevski’s feature Of An Age and two seasons of Fremantle Australia’s The PM’s Daughter for ABC Me, as well as Co-Casting on ABC series Fires and the forthcoming Black Snow (Stan) and Bay of Fires (ABC). Natalie has been Associate Casting on many other projects including Elvis, Mad Max: Fury Road, Carmen, The Invisible Man, Peter Rabbit, Aquaman, Breath, The Babadook, Netflix series Pieces of Her, HBO’s The Leftovers and Foxtel’s Picnic At Hanging Rock.

SHAUN RENNIE MASTERCLASS

Shaun Rennie is an award-winning National Institute of Dramatic Art and Royal Academy of Dramatic Art graduate director of who has worked across Australian premieres of new works, innovative revivals of treasured musicals and opera.

Shaun’s musical theatre directing credits include Rent at Sydney Opera House; The View Upstairs, Rent, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Carmen, Live or Dead and Only Heaven Knows for Hayes Theatre Co; Wicked for Free-Rain Theatre Company; Sweet Charity and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts; #Val at His Majesty’s Theatre, Perth. For Opera Australia Shaun recently revived La Boheme; was the assistant director for Il Trovatore and Aida, and earlier this year was the assistant director for The Phantom of the Opera on Sydney Harbour.
